Workshop with Jeremy Lipking

8x10 oil on panel

Here's my painting from a Jeremy Lipking workshop this fall 09.

I was amazed by his work especially a painting of his daughter in his studio.

I would definitely attend another workshop. He has a great studio and Malibu beach is his backyard :)

I'll be posting a link to more pictures soon!

Lacing...

Worked on the lacing some more for about 3.5 hrs. It's very high contrast on the rug but I kinda like it.

Direct Painting Workshop with Gabriel Mark Lipper

Direct painting: This method of painting is used to make paintings in a single application. This is an opaque painting technique used by the Impressionists in their early work, the Fauves and the Abstract Expressionists. Direct painting relies on more planning because artists must consider form and color simultaneously. (Gamblin website)

Attended the two day workshop in the hottest days so far this year. Monday was 104 & Tuesday was 106! It added to the artist suffering. This painting style was pretty different from what I'm used to. The "direct" style meaning that the color mixing is figured out on the palette then placed on the canvas without any blending! This was a complete mental strain for me. I kept finding my self putting a base color to then put another color on top.

I think this will be a good technique for smaller paintings ( instant gratification).
Here are my two paintings:

First day: Faceted drawing... looks pretty scary, final study and detail.

2nd day final 3 1/2 hr painting.

Home Studio... finally!

I've been wanting a studio at home forever. It has finally came true. We moved into our new house in April. Just got off of work for the summer this past week and have since been in my studio daily. Here are some pics...
