Direct Painting Workshop with Gabriel Mark Lipper

Direct painting: This method of painting is used to make paintings in a single application. This is an opaque painting technique used by the Impressionists in their early work, the Fauves and the Abstract Expressionists. Attended the two day workshop in the hottest days so far this year. Monday was 104 & Tuesday was 106! It added to the artist suffering. This painting style was pretty different from what I'm used to. The "direct" style meaning that the color mixing is figured out on the palette then placed on the canvas without any blending! This was a complete mental strain for me. I kept finding my self putting a base color to then put another color on top.

I think this will be a good technique for smaller paintings ( instant gratification).
